StadtLesen: A summer fairy tale

Press releases |

From 6 to 9 June 2024, the literary tour made another stop in Offenburg and transformed the market square into an open-air literary living room. StadtLesen offered literature enthusiasts the opportunity to browse through over 3,000 books while relaxing in beanbags, beach chairs and hammocks under palm trees and umbrellas. Markant was a supporter and main sponsor of this popular event for the seventh time this year.

Opening

On Thursday, 6 June, the four-day event was officially opened by Franz-Friedrich Müller, President of the Board of Directors of Markant AG, Mayor Hans-Peter Kopp and Sebastian Mettler, the initiator of StadtLesen.

Reading & Afterwork

This was followed by an emotional reading by the renowned German actress Gudrun Landgrebe from the book "Shell-Fish" by Émile Zola. The evening was rounded off by an after-work event with DJ Sticx in cooperation with FREIRAUM Offenburg.

On Friday, 7 June, it continued with music: in the afternoon, "Die lebende Musikbox" (The Living Music Box) entertained young and old with their iconic East German Trabi car, and in the evening, the band Randy Club thrilled the audience with exclusive live music.

The upcoming World Cleanup Day on 20 September was also the focus of the event. At a stand on the market square, rubbish bags and grabbers were distributed free of charge to remove rubbish from nature.

As part of StadtLesen, donations were also made to the clown visits at the Ortenau Children's Hospital, which was initiated by the Förderverein Kinderklinik Ortenau e.V. and is financed exclusively by donations. Health clown Stups was also on the market square and entertained the children there with balloon animals and soap bubbles, providing plenty of fun. A total of 590 euros in donations was collected, which Markant rounded up to 1,000 euros.

On all four days of the event, it was once again possible to linger and read at the market square until dusk. Of course, the supporting programme also included free ice cream for everyone and a photo box to immortalise the moments In addition, five Markant e-scooters were available to be won this year: A total of 259 people took part in the competition and the winners will be informed shortly.

StadtLesen 2024 in Offenburg once again offered something for everyone: literature, music, community and environmental awareness. Markant would like to thank all the co-organisers, participants and supporters who made this event possible.
